Data source
Food values come from USDA FoodData Central. Each page identifies the FDC ID, record description, data type, and retrieval date used in its calculation. USDA is the data source; it does not endorse or approve this site.
Record selection and food state
We select generic records with clear descriptions and usable protein and energy values. We state raw, fat-level, and preparation details so that unlike foods are not silently mixed. The initial records were reviewed on August 14, 2026.
Protein calculation
food grams = target protein grams ÷ protein grams per 100 g × 100
Calories for that portion use calories per 100 g × food grams ÷ 100. These are deterministic calculations from the selected source data.
Rounding and variability
Internally, calculations keep their numeric precision. Displayed portions are rounded to the nearest 5 g, ounces to 0.1 oz, and calories to the nearest 5 kcal. Actual food composition can vary with moisture, preparation, formulation, brand, and natural biological variation.
Updates and corrections
Every record retains its retrieval and review dates. To report a source, calculation, preparation-state, accessibility, or wording problem, use the contact route on Corrections & accessibility. A material correction is made in the normalized record, then its dependent pages and graphics are regenerated.
Scope and limitations
This site provides food-composition information, not individualized medical or dietary advice. It does not calculate personal protein requirements and does not provide cooking-time or food-safety recommendations.
